Registered Membership of the Society of Garden Designers
Helen became a Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers in February 2010 presenting her work for critical review by the Society. Helen becomes one of only 7 members in Yorkshire.
The Garden of Creation
The Garden of Creation, Little School Pre-School Nursery at Burley in Wharfedale Methodist Church, was officially opened on 16th July by Alison Goding, the Garden Manager at R.H.S. Harlow Carr.
Helen has redesigned the grounds of the Methodist Church leased by the nursery to provide a sensory garden, wildlife area and a large wall mural. She appointed 2 artists to contribute to the project: Lewis Morgan (www.lewismorgansculpture.co.uk) who designed and made a timber mural of Noah’s Ark and a procession of animals and David James (www.olicanamosaics.co.uk) who made a selection of mosaic images to tell the story of The Creation.

The August 2010 edition feature 'Grand Design' illustrates examples of Helen's private garden design in the Ilkley area.

GARDEN DESIGN Journal
The Garden of Creation, Burley in Wharfedale, has been selected by the Society of Garden Designers Journal as one of the best designs of 2010. Over 60 entries were submitted and this project was one of 10 selected.
The garden is featured in the January issue of the SGD Journal.
Society of Garden Designers Open Garden's Event
Garden opening: Sunday 1st May 2011, 2 to 6 pm.
The Garden of Creation at the Methodist Church in Burley in Wharfedale has been selected by SGD as part of its 30th anniversary Open Gardens celebrations. The society has launched its own open gardens event nationwide to celebrate the best of British garden design over the last 3 decades. The society aims to hold three open garden days, each showcasing ten gardens, all designed by SGD registered members.

Tatton Park Flower Show 20-24 July 2011
Helen will be helping to man the Society of Garden Designers' stand at Tatton on Friday 22 July (10.00-12.00 and 16.00-18.00). Design consultations are available free of charge.
Launch of Bespoke Planters side business idea. Helen has teamed up with Richard Mason of the Secret Drawer in Ilkley, makers of fine kitchens and bespoke furniture, supplying hand painted timber planters in exterior Farrow and Ball paint, with coordinated simple planting.
Look out for Helen’s bespoke planters at 28 Main Street, Burley in Wharfedale near St. Mary’s Church. Made by local joiner Richard Thompson to Helen’s design and specifications.
Helen appointed by Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Ilkley to provide design ideas for the development of their school grounds in the area of the Outdoor Classroom.
Look out for Helen’s planters at Main Boutique in Addingham. Painted in Manor House Gray, Farrow and Ball exterior paint and planted with box balls.
Completion of a front garden project at St. James’ Road, Ilkley. Passers-by gave very positive feedback on the subtle use of natural materials for the drive surface and the craftsmanship of the sett laying by Steve Ferris of Ilkley.
Attended a series of inspirational planting design lectures this month including the SGD Spring Conference in London, ’Beyond Borders’ with renowned speakers Tom Stuart Smith, Cleve West, James Hitchmough, Raymond Jungles, Christopher Woodward.
The local Landscape Institute invited renowned Piet Oudolf, planting designer of Scampston’s Walled Garden to Leeds Metropolitan University.
As part of the Ilkley May Day Carnival celebrations, Helen has teamed up with bespoke cabinet makers, The Secret Drawer to put together a ‘Jubilee’ inspired shop front and window display by supplying a set of red, white and blue planters.
