Contemporary low maintenance garden, Addingham.
Our client inherited the 1970’s bungalow from his late mum who was a very keen gardener. Having refurbished the house he wanted to improve the garden which had become difficult to keep on top of as he worked in London and only came up for occasional weekends. It was important to him that any improvements were sensitive to the original garden design and planting.
The climbing roses and wisteria had grown out of control and were pruned back. This allowed more light in the garden.
The main new garden feature extended the contemporary character of the house into a large unused corner of the woodland border. We used a light grey composite decking to wrap around a tiny wildlife pond to create a new seating area. The decking was softened with drifts of ornamental grasses – Miscanthus Morning Light and Carex testacea Prairie Fire.
Next to the kitchen, new raised hardwood sleeper beds were created for herbs, fruit and vegetables.
In another contrasting part of the garden following selective removal of plants, we replanted the central bed between the converging paths, created a space for a proposed garden room and resurfaced and edged the path.
