ONE DAY SKETCH Design
The In-Home Garden Consultancy.
We offer this sketch design service for clients who need help pulling their own ideas together, those who don’t even know where to start or who might need a quick turnaround.
We work from the client’s home for a day providing an intensive brainstorming session to develop a garden layout or planting design.
What’s Included:
- A pre-appointment phone discussion to find out your garden frustrations, needs and requirements.
- The day itself starts with a walk round the garden, discussing your garden in detail to understand how you use the space, views and need for screening, areas of sun and shade, shelter and exposure etc. We will discuss your own initial ideas and how they relate to the garden, focus on problem areas, your priorities and budget.
- We will sketch some initial ideas and explore these with you and over the course of the day develop your preferred design, providing a more detailed plan by the end of the day. The level of detail will depend on the scale and complexity of your garden and needs.
We can advise on planning matters, hard landscape materials, construction methods, suitable local contractors, planting layout and selection.

PLANTS AND PLANTING
Following on from our planting design service, we can:
- Supply the specified plants, compost and mulches.
- Carry out final soil preparation, setting out of plants
- Planting and mulching.
- Provide a tailor made Maintenance Booklet to guide you with the upkeep
- Offer planting reviews as the planting matures
- Bring in specialist or additional helpers for large planting projects
Example planting project:
Once your plant order has been collated, we visit the local plant nursery to check the plants prior to dispatch, checking the quality and selecting any required substitutes.
We receive the plant order on site, help unload and set out into the final planting positions, then we carry out the planting into the cultivated topsoil (prepared ahead by the landscape contractor). We recommend finishing the beds with a mulch – often using Strulch, a straw based mulch useful to deter slugs and suppress weeds and finally water the plants to field capacity and tidy up!
If you would like to be involved in the final selection of plants for your garden, you can accompany us to the plant nursery. Many clients really enjoy seeing the huge selection of quality plants and the new and interesting varieties which are available.
