Virtual Garden TOUR 2020 - part two
We are excited to take you on 'Part Two' of our Virtual Garden Tour 2020. Sadly we are not able to visit the gardens together this year due to the pandemic. This tour will take you on a journey from Burley in Wharfedale to Otley first visiting a family garden to a Victorian stone property in the centre of the village; a formal parterre to a large stone villa on Moor Lane and finally a small terraced garden in Otley.
Family garden, Burley in Wharfedale
The main frustration with this garden was the sloping lawn bisected by a decaying timber retaining wall which reduced the area of usable lawn. The timber wall was removed, the lawn levelled and enlarged and a new stone retaining wall built closer the house in a formal style with stone steps.
The new garden layout provides a range of seating areas. The clients have used this garden so much for eating out and play this summer already. A new room/ series of rooms beyond the house!
New flagged path, stone wall and steps.
The new arbour in the best area of sun. The client’s favourite place to sit in the garden.
The new level lawn, offering plenty of room for a kickabout.
Colourful accessorising: the clients pastel coloured pots brighten up the new slatted screen.

Rose Parterre, Burley in wharfedale
The client approached us to replant the formal box parterre. We proposed using a new David Austin rose, Roald Dahl, a compact apricot rose for the outer beds – with a taller rose variety in the central beds – Rosa Lady of Shallot, a darker orange-red rose
We underplanted the roses with purple / blue flowering perennials to extend the flowering period – rings of lavender around each stone vase and Geranium Kashmir Blue to give a foamy effect, catmint in the outer beds and tulips for early in the year.

Terraced garden, Otley
This small terraced garden planting had grown too large blocking light and views into the garden from the house. Whilst working with a small budget, we achieved a transformation by starting with a much-needed clearance of plants and unused BBQ and stone planter.
Before the garden was redesigned.
The stone-built planter was demolished and the stone used to edge an evening patio with new seating arbour. Liz enjoying her new ‘garden room’.
The precast concrete wall copes were replaced with new Yorkshire stone copings and the same material used for the small patio and main steps leading to the garden.
In other areas we used pea gravel. A new broad step was added to link to the garden and offered a sunny place for pots to enjoy from inside.
